Now, THIS is a hike.
The Bridge to Nowhere was built in the 1930s to bridge the San Gabriel Valley and Wrightwood together. After a massive flood and a change in the landscape, the bridge was abandoned and left as an isolated tourist attraction. The 11(ish)-mile hike will take you through the San Gabriel River and up a 900-foot ascension. The trail is an absolute adventure and without much guidance, is easy to get lost in.
The best advice I can give you is to stay on the right side of the river. If you get lost, just keep walking and you’ll find your path back to where you need to go.
Once you get to the bridge you can also go bungee jumping! Truly terrifying.
Where to Park
Camp Bonita Rd
La Verne, CA 91750
The hike is located deep inside the Angeles National Forest. The national forest requires a parking pass for all visitors. You can order one online or buy one at local shops, just make sure you bring cash as no debit or credit cards are accepted. The pass should be hung in your windshield while you hike.
The trailhead has a small parking lot and bathroom right in front. The trail is usually busy so parking fills up quickly. If you can’t find a spot, drive down the road and try to find a good spot to park your car.
What to Wear
I cannot emphasize enough that this is a “hike hike.” You should absolutely wear shoes that have a strong support for your feet. You will be going through water, up and down hills and through various terrain. You should come prepared with enough water and snacks to hold you for a half-day hike.
Happy hiking!
