The good news is that you get to rewrite your story whenever you want to. In fact, you can stand up right now, walk out of your home and announce to the world that you’re a photographer. You can also select author, cook, fitness instructor or model.

The bad news is that deciding who you want to be is just half the battle. Yes, you can be whoever you want to be. Once you decide, you also have to act like that person or thing which requires time, dedication and effort.

  • What are your talents?

  • What are you good at?

  • What makes you special?

Here are a few tips that can help you get to the next level.

1. Take the risk.

Great. You’ve taken the risk and announced to the world that you’re a new person. Now go for it and go all in. Remember, there is only “hell yes” or “hell no.” “Hell maybe” doesn’t exist.

2. Create a space for your new self.

To be your new self, what do you need to change about your surroundings? Do you need to carve out a space in your home to play, create or be? Do you need new software or technological equipment to shoot photography? Are you doing a new physical activity that requires you to access mountains or water? Whatever it is for you, take the first steps to create a dedicated space that will allow you to unfold into the new you.

3. Get to know your equipment.

If you’re here, I’m sure you know that social media is the new front door to any business. Whether you have a camera or just a phone, make sure you become familiar with your options and its settings to create the best possible content.

4. Stop comparing!

Using other businesses and individuals as inspiration is one thing, but do not try to become them or compare yourself to another’s success. It’s easy to get caught up in the “What if’s” but I implore you to focus on what you’re building. Remember, it’s never too late to become you want to be. Everything you’ve done up until this point just makes you better.

To end, I’ll leave you with a quote from Thomas Edison, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.”
