Remember when you were a little kid and could dream? You’d dream of a life you could live, of a family you could build and most of all, you dreamt of scenarios you could play out with your dolls or your friends.
When you dreamt of those things, I hope those closest to you encouraged you to dream more.
So what happens when you grow up and life becomes a bit more realistic?
You know, those times when your choices become more defining. When certain choices that you make start to narrow down a path you take as you become older and eventually turn into a life that you’re intended to live.
This is where I tell you that the life you’re living right now is a direct consequence of the choices you made.
In other words, you created this life.
And that’s where accountability and healing comes in.
Nobody told us that the dreams we had as a kid could become a reality and nobody told us that we could start over at any moment and change the course. Change is hard and it’s even harder for adults who have a lot of commitments.
We’re creature of habits and tend to select a routine and choices we’re used to and most comfortable with. Most often, these choices are unconscious and therefore don’t feel like things that are in your control.
Therefore, it’s easy to feel like you’re a victim and everyone around you is causing the outcome of the life you’re living.
So, change your perception.
That’s easier said than done, which is why I’ll say it again: change your perception.
Whenever things hare happening that fire you up and make you react in an unfavorable way, I encourage you to pause.
Pause and do a self check-in:
-
Do I feel at peace with what is happening around me?
-
Can I change the outcome?
-
Can I change the way I think about what’s happening so I can move forward in a favorable way?
-
Is this situation aligned with my dreams?
The reality is that you create your reality. While you can’t change the actions of another person, you can choose to control your reaction to it. You have the choice to feel your feelings and then decide on the next course that aligns with your values and your dreams.
Trust me, that’s a hard muscle to exercise but with practice it’ll get easier.
And while it is hard initially to be more conscious and align yourself with your most favored outcome, doing the work is easier than letting go of control and allowing life to happen around you.
I promise you that.
